Southern Rata bark 3D Thread Sculpture.

I adore trekking through New Zealand's national parks and remote native forests.  I'm attracted to the many textured patterns of bark.  The Southern Rata that is found in the South Island was inspired for this piece, and I love the tree's gnarled appearance that is common in exposed areas.  

Carefully pinned onto perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
