This unique and perfectly patterned red-striped sea anemone (Epiactis thompsoni) is commonly seen in rock pools and on rocky reefs away from strong ocean currents throughout New Zealand. This species has a distinctive orange coloured column, with bright pink tips on its tentacles. It is viviparous, which means it can give birth to live young that are fully formed when they emerge from the parent.
Carefully pinned onto a locally sourced pine wood, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
