These pieces are my sculptural embroidery versions of the northern rata driftood, bracket fungi and the Entoloma hochstetteri (werewere kokako fungi). I adore trekking through New Zealand's national parks and remote native forests. I'm attracted to the many textured patterns of bark. The northern Rata that is found in the North Island was inspired for this piece, and I love the tree's gnarled appearance that is common in exposed areas.
Carefully pinned onto perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
