Wai-o-tapu thermal wonderland in Rotorua was my great source of inspiration for this sculpture. With vents and pools reaching temperatures over 100degrees, the thermal area is alive with bubbling hot mud, geysers, and orange coloured steam pools. Cascading silica formation that tells the story of centuries of mineral deposits and layers of colloidal sulphur form an incredible lime/white/green colouration at the Primrose Terraces. The visually exciting range of colours is due to minerals absorbed by the water and ferrous salts leached from the rocks at very high temperatures. A must-see tourist destination, a delight for the senses, and the wonders of nature.
Layer upon layer of tiny stitches make up a delicate network of sculpted thread-work, that is made entirely by hand and sculpted onto fine pins.
