Cabbage tree bark, lichen & fungi 3D Thread Sculpture.

These pieces are my sculptural embroidery versions of aged cabbage tree bark, a fallen piece of lichen on bark, and the Entoloma hochstetteri (werewere kokako fungi).  I adore trekking through New Zealand's national parks and remote native forests.  I'm attracted to the many textured patterns of bark.  The incredible texture of the cabbage tree bark was inspired for this piece, and I love the bark's peeling layers and colours.  
Carefully pinned onto perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
