I adore trekking through New Zealand's national parks and remote native forests. I'm attracted to the many textured patterns of bark, and colourful fungi that I find fascinating. This is my sculpted thread version of the orange pore fungus (favolaschia claudopus) growing on a branchlet, and black stoneflower lichen (parmotrema perlatum) growing on a piece of bark. These were both meticulously copied from real specimens that were found, photographed and re-created in thread.
Carefully pinned onto locally sourced pine wood, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
