The Kawakawa tree is commonly found throughout New Zealand and is well known to the Maori for its long history of medicinal use. The heart shaped leaves are boiled in a pot to create a herbal tonic. The sculpture shows the common holes left by the cheeky nocturnal caterpillar that feasts on it at night.
It is completely hand made, and made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny stitches and moulded onto glass rods and pins to elevate it from the backing board which creates beautiful shadows.
Professionally framed using a white boxed frame and museum grade glass. This offers ultimate clarity, with reduced reflection, and has 99% UV protection from the sun.
