Bluff crayfish shell 3D Thread Sculpture.

This piece is my sculptural embroidery version of the Bluff Crayfish shell (red rock lobster).  I managed to source a real shell that was fully intact from a fisherman located in Bluff, near the bottom of the South Island, where I was able to study the fine textures and patterns of this incredible shell in great detail.  This design shows the upper head piece of the heavily armoured shell.  These shellfish can reach a whopping 60cm (excluding the feelers).

The shell is carefully pinned to perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved specimen.
