An extremely elegant wader bird of New Zealand, with long pinkish coloured legs, that are disproportionately long compared to its body. Also called Poaka (maori) these birds are at risk, and in decline due to their nests being on the ground and eggs are often eaten by rats, cats, hedgehogs and stoats.
