Lichen Moth 3D Thread Sculpture.

The lichen moth (declana atronivea) is common throughout New Zealand, particularly on Stewart Island.  This unique and perfectly camouflaged moth has a wing span of 4cm - 4.8cm, each with individual markings.  Upon finding one of these moths I had the chance to study its intricate wing patterns, to photograph it, and began this design based upon a real specimen.  

Carefully pinned onto natural pine wood sourced from New Zealand, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.

Depth:  7cm.

Ready for hanging straight onto the wall. Each piece comes with its own signed certificate of authenticity.
