Forest Ringlet Butterfly 3D Thread Sculpture.

The stunning Forest Ringlet butterfly (Dodonidia helmsii).  also known as the Helms' butterfly.  A native butterfly of New Zealand, once seen throughout our country, but is now seldom seen - thanks to the invasive and devastating wasps that prey on the butterfly larvae.  They can be found in patches of beech forest, where the females lay their eggs on sedge and tussock grasses.

Made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny stitches and sculpted onto perspex pins.

Professionally framed using a white boxed frame and museum grade glass. This offers ultimate clarity, with reduced reflection, and has 99% UV protection from the sun.  The backing board is made of natural pine wood, sourced locally.
