The stunning Forest Ringlet butterfly (Dodonidia helmsii). also known as the Helms' butterfly. A native butterfly of New Zealand, once seen throughout our country, but is now seldom seen - thanks to the invasive and devastating wasps that prey on the butterfly larvae. They can be found in patches of beech forest, where the females lay their eggs on sedge and tussock grasses.
