This Tůĩ thread sculpture was inspired by the iconic bird of New Zealand. A very boisterous bird with its dazzling blue, green, bronze plumage and distinctive white throat tuft, and gorgeous song made up of grunts, snorts, wheezes and whistles. Notoriously aggressive during breeding season, where they vigorously chase other birds away from their territory with loud whirring wings and show an incredible display flight in which they fly upwards above the canopy, and make a near-vertical dive back into the canopy. I am fortunate to have plenty of these birds around my garden in which I can observe.
