Sunburst Lichen 3D Thread Sculpture.

This piece was inspired by the common and often overlooked orange Sunburst Lichen of New Zealand. (xanthoria novozelandica).  Viewed through a magnifying glass, this organic structure was made based upon these beautiful lichens with their multiple growths, holes and darker other species of lichens that grow together.

Layer upon layer of tiny stitches make up a delicate network of sculptural embroidery.
