The Kawakawa tree is commonly found throughout New Zealand and is well known to the Maori for its long history of medicinal use. The heart shaped leaves are boiled in a pot to create a delicious minty tasting herbal tonic. This sculpture shows the many holes left by the cheeky nocturnal looper caterpillar that feasts on the leaves at night.
