I was inspired by the rare Kakapo, a New Zealand flightless nocturnal parrot, and New Zealand's tiniest bush bird - the Rifleman. I have been lucky enough to meet a Kakapo in a special breeding area that is safe and predator free, and to have seen the tiny rifleman zip around the dense mountain beech forests with a call that's similar to a squeaky toy!
