Camellia 3D Thread Sculpture.

Japonica or royal velvet camellia might be a common flower in New Zealand gardens, but this beautifully sculptural flower caught my eye, causing me to take a closer examination of the shapes and textures of its form.  Layer upon layer of different shaped petals are created for this flower, showing its natural bruising that the petals often show, rips and caterpillar bites.

It is completely hand made, and made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny stitches and moulded onto glass rods to elevate it from the backing board which creates beautiful shadows.
