These pieces are my sculptural embroidery version of the Canterbury giant weta. These insects are found nowhere else in the world. Commonly 50mm long, it is found in bush remnants around the foothills of the Southern Alps, and the Banks Peninsula. They live in holes and crevices of forest trees. Pictured here, sitting on a piece of sculpted bark with layers of woven moss (made of thread and wool). Carefully pinned onto perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved museum specimen.
This measures:
Height: 46 cm
Width: 26cm
Depth: 7cm.
Ready for hanging straight onto the wall. Each piece comes with its own certificate of authenticity.
