These pieces are my sculptural embroidery versions of five species of bird feathers found throughout New Zealand. Studied from actual feathers I have found from offshore islands I was volunteering at, west coast beaches, and from hiking through native forests. From left: Mallard duck, White-fronted Tern, Kereru, Eastern Rosella, Morepork (ruru).
Made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny stitches and sculpted onto pins.
