This sculpture is based upon a common brown seaweed found in New Zealand (Macrocystis pyrifera). These extroardinary seaweeds grow up to 20 metres high, with long slender stems and beautiful patterns. They have a corrugated surface, and prickly-like edges. Exploring the lower North regions of New Zealand, I photographed and took sketches of these seaweeds amongst the inter-tidal areas.
It is completely hand made in New Zealand, and made up of hundreds and thousands of tiny stitches and moulded onto glass pins.
Professionally framed using a white boxed frame and high grade museum glass. This offers ultimate clarity, with reduced reflection, and has 99% UV protection from the sun.
